- 3 min read
At the completion of our Term 1 program, athletes in the New Lynn 8–10 group completed post-testing to compare against their Week 1 baseline.
This testing provides insight into the development of key athletic qualities, including:
Acceleration (0–10m)
Sprint performance (20m and 10–20m)
Change of direction (5–10–5)
Lower-body power (Broad Jump)
All results below show Week 1 → Week 8 values, along with percentage change across the program.
How to interpret results:
Sprint & agility: Lower time = improvement
Broad Jump: Higher distance = improvement

Strong improvements in both sprinting and power, demonstrating effective transfer from training into performance.
Avril
Broad Jump: +25.00%
10–20m: +20.40%
A standout improvement in lower-body power alongside clear gains in sprint efficiency.
Harrison
Broad Jump: +22.86%
10–20m: +19.55%
A well-rounded development profile, particularly in power and top-end sprint performance.
Key Insights
Sprint Development
A consistent trend across the group was improvement in the 10–20m phase, indicating:
Better ability to maintain and express speed
Improved sprint mechanics in upright running
Increased efficiency at higher velocities
Acceleration Variability (0–10m)
While some athletes showed slower 0–10m times, this is common at this stage and often reflects:
Changes in sprint technique
Increased intent and exposure to higher speeds
Ongoing development of acceleration mechanics
This phase typically improves with continued training and technical consolidation.
Power Development
Broad jump improvements across most athletes indicate:
Increased force production
Improved coordination and movement efficiency
Agility Development
Variability in 5–10–5 results is expected and often reflects:
Athletes moving faster into directional changes
Development of braking and re-acceleration mechanics
Increased movement complexity
Important Context
While testing provides valuable objective data, we do not assess athlete development based on numbers alone.
Across the program, there were clear and significant improvements in movement quality, including:
Sprint mechanics and posture
Coordination and rhythm
Acceleration and deceleration control
Jumping and landing mechanics
There are also many variables that influence testing outcomes, including:
Growth and maturation
Fatigue and external sporting commitments
Familiarity with testing protocols
Day-to-day readiness
Final Note
This group has made excellent progress across the term, particularly in developing speed, coordination, and lower-body power.
These are key foundational qualities that will continue to support long-term athletic development.
