- 3 min read
At the completion of our Term 1 program, athletes in the Albany 8–10 group completed post-testing to compare against their Week 1 baseline.
This testing provides insight into the development of key athletic qualities, including:
Sprint performance (20m)
Acceleration (0–10m)
Speed maintenance (10–20m)
Change of direction (5–10–5)
Lower-body power (Broad Jump)
Explosive power (CMJ Vertical Jump)
All results below show Week 1 → Week 8 values, along with percentage change across the program (positive % indicates improvement).
How to Interpret Results
Sprint & agility: Lower time = improvement
Broad Jump & CMJ: Higher value = improvement

Standout Performances
Jackson O
20m Sprint: +9.51%
0–10m: +16.90%
A standout improvement in acceleration, indicating strong development in early force production and sprint mechanics. This is a key performance quality at this age.
Austin W
5–10–5: +10.62%
Broad Jump: +11.11%
CMJ: +3.82%
Strong improvements across agility and power, demonstrating improved coordination, force production, and movement efficiency.
Freddie M
20m Sprint: +5.55%
10–20m: +9.94%
Notable improvements in top-end speed and speed maintenance, reflecting improved running mechanics and stride efficiency.
Key Insights
Acceleration Development
Improvements in 0–10m performance (particularly Jackson) highlight:
Improved force application into the ground
Better body positioning during acceleration
Increased ability to generate speed early
Acceleration is one of the most trainable qualities at this age and remains a key focus of development.
Agility Development
Most athletes improved their 5–10–5 times, indicating:
Improved deceleration mechanics
Better control when changing direction
Increased confidence at speed
These qualities are critical for almost all field and court sports.
Speed Variability
Some athletes showed mixed results across sprint splits. This is expected and can reflect:
Ongoing development of sprint technique
Coordination changes during growth
Differences between acceleration and top-speed ability
At this stage, consistency of movement is just as important as raw speed outcomes.
Power Development
Broad Jump and CMJ results show:
General improvements in lower-body power
Increased coordination in jumping mechanics
Early development of force production qualities
Where results remained stable, this often reflects consolidation of technique rather than lack of progress.
Important Context
While testing provides valuable objective data, athlete development is not assessed on numbers alone.
Across the program, there were clear improvements in:
Sprint mechanics and posture
Coordination and rhythm when running
Braking and movement control
Jumping and landing technique
Additionally, several external factors influence testing outcomes:
Growth and maturation
Fatigue and external sport load
Familiarity with testing
Day-to-day readiness
For this reason, results should always be viewed within the broader context of long-term development.
Final Note
This group has made strong progress across the term, particularly in developing acceleration, agility, and foundational power.
At this stage of development, building movement quality, coordination, and confidence is the priority — and this group has shown clear progress in all areas.
