Term 3 Speed & Agility Testing Results – Week 1 Baseline

The first week of Term 3 saw our Speed & Agility athletes complete their initial athletic performance testing.


These assessments provide an objective benchmark for every athlete and allow our coaching team to track measurable improvements throughout the term. Rather than relying on observation alone, we measure the key physical qualities that underpin sporting performance so every athlete can see exactly how they are progressing.


All athletes will complete the same testing battery again in Week 8, allowing us to compare results and measure improvements in acceleration, speed, agility, jumping ability and reactive strength.

Why We Test

Our Speed & Agility testing battery assesses the physical qualities that are fundamental to athletic performance across almost every sport.


Athletes completed:


  • 20m Sprint (including two 10m splits)

  • 5-10-5 Agility Test

  • Vertical Jump

  • Broad Jump

  • Reactive Strength Index (RSI)

These tests provide valuable insight into acceleration, sprint mechanics, lower-body power, change of direction ability and reactive explosiveness.

Foundations (8–10 Years)

Our Foundations athletes are developing the movement skills that underpin long-term athletic development. At this stage, the emphasis is on learning quality sprint mechanics, improving coordination, building confidence and developing efficient movement patterns before pursuing maximal performance.

The Foundations athletes have established a solid baseline to begin the term. Over the coming weeks, sessions will focus on improving acceleration mechanics, posture, coordination, sprint efficiency, landing mechanics and lower-body power.

Development (11–13 Years)

The Development pathway focuses on refining the movement foundations established in earlier years while progressively developing greater acceleration, sprint efficiency, agility and lower-body power.

Athletes at this stage begin learning how to produce force more effectively, improve change of direction mechanics and transfer these qualities into sport-specific performance.

The Development group has established a strong baseline across all testing measures. Throughout the remainder of the term, athletes will continue progressing through structured sprint mechanics, acceleration development, deceleration training, change of direction drills and plyometric progressions to improve both performance and movement efficiency.

Performance (14–18 Years)

The Performance pathway is designed for athletes who are looking to maximise their athletic potential and prepare for the physical demands of competitive sport.


Training focuses on producing greater force into the ground, improving acceleration and maximum sprint mechanics, refining change of direction ability, and developing explosive athletic qualities that transfer directly to performance on the field or court.


By this stage, athletes are expected to demonstrate greater consistency in their movement quality while continuing to improve speed, power and reactive ability.

The Performance athletes have established an excellent benchmark to begin Term 3. As expected, this group demonstrates the highest levels of acceleration, jumping ability and reactive strength across the Speed & Agility pathway.


Over the next eight weeks, athletes will continue progressing through advanced sprint mechanics, acceleration development, maximal velocity training, change of direction progressions and plyometric programming. The focus is not simply on becoming faster, but on improving movement efficiency, force application and the transfer of speed into sporting performance.

Looking Ahead

Week 1 testing provides every athlete with a clear starting point for the term.


At UNCAPD, we believe testing should be used to measure individual progress, not compare athletes against one another. Every athlete develops at a different rate depending on their age, biological maturity, sporting background and training experience.


Our structured Speed & Agility pathway is designed to progressively develop these physical qualities over time through evidence-based coaching and age-appropriate programming.


When athletes return for testing in Week 8, they will be able to objectively compare their results and see the improvements they have made across acceleration, agility, power and reactive performance.

Missing Results

Some athletes currently have incomplete testing data.


Any missing assessments will be completed during this week's training sessions where possible. In some cases, athletes were unable to complete every test due to injury, illness, time constraints or other individual limitations. These remaining assessments will be completed when appropriate so every athlete has a complete performance profile to compare against their Week 8 testing.


We look forward to seeing the progress every athlete makes throughout Term 3 and celebrating the measurable improvements achieved over the coming weeks.
